Pinellas Park is the closest city to our shop, about fifteen minutes from us in St. Petersburg, so it is usually the quickest place for us to get to. The owner is on your job. Pinellas Park is a working city rather than a resort one, and the housing shows it: retirement streets, manufactured home parks, and block houses that have been rented out for thirty years. Almost none of it is new, and that is good news for a refinisher.
The Mainlands of Tamarac by the Gulf alone is about 1,500 homes across seven neighbourhood associations, built between 1969 and 1987 with most of them going up in the early 1970s. Those bathrooms are typically original: one bath, a standard alcove tub with a high side, and tile that has outlived two kitchens. Replacing the tub means tearing out that tile. Refinishing does not, and it takes a day. A built-in non-slip bottom from $60 is the add-on we recommend most often here, for the obvious reason.
There are more manufactured home communities in and around Pinellas Park than almost anywhere in the county. Those tubs are thin fiberglass or plastic, usually moulded into a one-piece surround, and they need lighter preparation than cast iron. We do refinish them. We also tell people when we cannot: if the floor of the tub flexes under your weight or the surface is cracked through, a coating will not hold, and we would rather say that than take the job.
Three bedroom, one or two bath concrete block houses from the 1950s through the 1970s, many of them rentals now. Standard five-foot alcove tub, original tile surround, usually stained rather than damaged. Straightforward jobs, and the wall tile can be done at the same visit.
